Write a Job Description
This process is the exact same as writing a CV with a few extra steps.
The most important differences to be aware of:
The background for employers is blue, instead of white.
Knockout questions are defaults, rather than final answers.
Journal editing comes with a list of files and overrides.
Posting requires an active subscription.
Purpose of a JD
Job Descriptions (JDs) exist to tell the world about a problem that you want someone (the best possible fit) to solve.
Other job platforms encourage you to treat this like a sales pitch. CV Heap only cares about what the role actually requires.
REMEMBER: A bad hire is more costly than no hire at all. The only way that we can guarantee an accurate match for what the role actually requires is for a complete and honest account of what those requirements are. Treating it like a wishlist hurts everyone and will get your account banned from our network.
What a JD Contains
A job post on CV Heap is a thorough description of what day-to-day life in the role is actually like.
Not a Sales Pitch:
Most job posts spend their length advertising why someone would want to work at the company. CV Heap provides the answer: because the candidate is a perfect fit for the work you need performed, today.
Do Not Include:
Any type of benefit (profit sharing, healthcare, retirement, etc.)
Grand company vision, or even what service(s) you provide
Why working there is great
Any sort of identifying information
Anything that shows up in knock-out questions
Details about working with people on the team
Qualification or certification requirements
Write Down the Ordinary Days:
The tasks that fill a normal week, including the dull ones.
The tools and systems the role actually touches.
Who the role works with, and how often.
Every single nitty gritty detail across the entire first three months.
The parts of the job people find hardest.
The parts of the job people find boring but enjoyable.
Write Down the Extraordinary Days:
Did something crazy blow up that could have ruined the company if someone in this role hadn’t spent years learning everything about the application?
How did the company recover?
